Monday, June 8: The Trailways Conference announced today that CWC senior Brian Hofman has been named the 2009 Performer of the Year in track and field. Hofman had a great conference season, winning the 800, 1600, and 3200 in each of the dual meets against the Northern Division. He capped his regular season off by taking both the 1600 and 3200 at the Trailways Conference Championships on May 19, in a meet that featured all 12 conference teams. "Brian and I are both humbled and honored that the other conference coaches thought highly enough of him to vote for him," said Coach Matt Hofman, who is also Brian's father. "Brian has worked incredibly hard throughout his four years of track, and this is a fitting tribute to his effort and achievement." Hofman is considering continuing his running career at the college level next year when he becomes a student at Trinity Christian College in Palos Heights, IL.
Saturday, June 6: Laney Kemink closed out the track and field season by taking 7th in the finals of the 100 meter dash at the WIAA State Track and Field meet, held yesterday and today in La Crosse. Kemink posted a personal-best time of 13.03 to earn the ninth and last qualifying spot on Friday, and then moved up to 7th in the final, missing the medal podium by .01 seconds. Kemink also competed in the 200, finishing 11th in Friday's prelims. Drew Buteyn leaped 19'3" in poor weather conditions to grab 12th place in the long jump on Saturday. The girls 800 relay team of Tiffany Huizenga, Hanna De Groot, Megan Allen and Kemink finished 16th in Friday's prelims.
"A great result for Laney," said Coach Matt Hofman. "The sky is the limit with her. She was certainly disappointed to come so close to the medal stand and miss out, but 7th place is fantastic. Drew was really hoping to get back over the 20-foot mark, but jumping conditions were far from ideal - cool, windy, and wet. Both of them should really be able to build on this experience heading into next year."
Friday, May 29: Freshman Laney Kemink led the way to La Crosse for Central Wisconsin Christian's Track and Field team at tonight's WIAA Sectional Meet, hosted by Princeton. Kemink won the 100 meter dash in a time of 13.36 seconds, and also qualified in the 200 meters by finishing fourth in a personal best 26.81 seconds. Kemink also teamed with Tiffany Huizenga, Hanna De Groot, and Megan Allen to nab third in the 800 meter relay, with a time of 1:55.30. The Crusaders were helped in that race when two teams that finished ahead of them were disqualified.
CWC also had one boy qualify for State, as Drew Buteyn leaped to fourth place in the long jump with a distance of 19' 9.5". Buteyn, a junior, narrowly missed state in his two hurdles races, finishing fifth in the 110 high hurdles and sixth in the 300 intermediate hurdles.
"Laney ran great tonight," commented Coach Matt Hofman. "She is a fierce competitor, and that is exactly what is needed at this level." The WIAA State Track and Field meet is next Friday and Saturday at UW-La Crosse.
Tuesday, May 26: Drew Buteyn placed first in two events tonight, second in another, and anchored the 1600 relay to third place to lead Central Wisconsin Christian at tonight's WIAA Regional Track and Field meet, hosted by Princeton High School. Buteyn won the 110 hurdles (16.89) and the long jump (19' 4.25") while placing second in the 300 hurdles (42.84). Laney Kemink advanced to sectionals in three events, winning the 100 (13.23), taking second in the 200 (27.97) and anchoring the victorious 800 relay (Tiffany Huizenga, Hanna De Groot, Megan Allen, 1:57.57).

Lukas Buteyn picked up third in the long jump (18' 8.5") while teammate Jory Kok was right behind in fourth (18' 8.25"). Emily Braaksma advanced in both the triple jump (2nd, 31' 4.5") and the long jump (3rd, 13' 10.25"). The boys 1600 relay of Alex Geleynse, Jacob Van Den Berg, L. Buteyn, and D. Buteyn ran 3:40.94 to secure their third place. Overall, the Crusader boys scored 101.5 points to finish third in the 10-team field, behind St. Mary's Springs (147.5) and Wayland Academy (110.5).

CWC returns to Princeton on Friday for the WIAA Sectional, where the top four finishers in each event earn a trip to State.
Tuesday, May 19: Brian Hofman and Drew Buteyn both received first team all conference awards in two individual events at tonight's Trailways Conference Championships, held at Randolph High School. Wesley Immel also earned first team status by winning the shot put with a throw 42' 9.5". Jory Kok was named to the second team all conference by jumping 38' 9.25" in the triple jump while Lukas Buteyn leapt to the same place in the long jump, with 19' 6". Tuesday, May 12: Brian Hofman and Drew Buteyn both won three individual events tonight as the Crusaders finished the dual meet season with a perfect 5-0 record, defeating Princeton 108-28. Hofman took the 800, 1600 and 3200 while Buteyn captured the 110 hurdles, the 300 hurdles, and the long jump. Wesley Immel was a double winner, taking both the shot put and the discus throw. While a short-handed girls team was defeated 103-19 by Princeton, Emily Braaksma took first in both the long and triple jumps.
"Winning the dual meet Trailways North crown was a major goal for our boys, so tonight was a great night," said Coach Matt Hofman. "I'm pleased with the effort the boys gave tonight. Now it is time to start preparing for the conference meet and Regionals." The Trailways Conference Championships are next Tuesday in Randolph.
Monday, May 4: Central Wisconsin Christian's boys track and field team remains undefeated in Trailways Conference dual-meet action after winning a pair of meets tonight. The Crusaders beat the host Knights of Oshkosh Lourdes 74-62 and topped the Green Lake Lakers 108-24. All the teams participated together, but separate head-to-head scores were kept.
The blue and gold beat Lourdes despite dropping all four relay races to them. "I was very concerned after we got beat in the 4x400," said Coach Matt Hofman. "I knew the score was going to be close and I thought that might swing the advantage to Lourdes. Fortunately, we had picked up enough points, especially in the horizontal jumps, to off-set the relays. I couldn't be prouder of my athletes. We had to overcome some setbacks, including some key injuries, and we feel very blessed to have come out on top."
The Crusaders got three individual overall firsts from both Brian Hofman (1600, 4:42; 800, 2:11; and 3200, 10:58) and Drew Buteyn (long jump, 18'8"; 110 hurdles, 17.7, and 300 hurdles, 43.7). Wesley Immel earned two firsts (discus, 112'10.5", shot put, 40'4.25") and Jory Kok (triple jump, 38'3") added another.
CWC's girls split their contests, beating Green Lake 47-45 while losing to Oshkosh Lourdes 37-80. CWC travels to Princeton next Tuesday to complete the conference regular season.

"We're struggling a bit right now with illnesses and injuries, so I'm not disappointed team scores weren't kept tonight. We need to get healthy as we head into the second half of our conference season," said Coach Matt Hofman. CWC travels to Oshkosh Lourdes next Monday for a Trailways Conference double dual against Lourdes and Green Lake.
Tuesday, April 28: Crusader Track and Field scored a pair of victories in Trailways Conference action at Randolph tonight. CWC topped Randolph/Cambria-Friesland, 73-64, and bested Markesan 94-40. All three teams competed at the same time but separate head-to-head scores were kept.

While the girls team dropped both of their matches, Laney Kemink took first in the 100 and anchored the 800 meter relay (including Tiffany Huizenga, Hanna De Groot, and Megan Allen) to victory. Brittany Haan captured the 3200, and Emily Braaksma took the triple jump.
"A great team effort tonight," commented Coach Matt Hofman. "Due to some injuries, some people had to really step up tonight and compete in events that they do not normally do.
