Education: I graduated from Dordt College in Sioux Center, IA in December of 1999 with a Bachelor's Degree in Secondary Education - History. My current endorsements are for World History and American History. I am currently trying to finish work towards completion of a Master's Degree in Curriculum and Instruction from Dordt College.
Experience: My career in high school education began at Sunnyside Christian High School in Sunnyside, WA in 2000 and continued until 2009. While there, I was able to teach all the history courses and several other courses in different subject areas as needs arose. In 2009, CWC offered me the opportunity to take on new challenges here. I continue to teach the history courses and have also taken on a middle school course and some high school Bible courses.
Other involvement at CWC: Class advisor for the Class of 2014, Cross Country coach, Assistant Track and Field coach
Family: I have been married to Stacey Smies for nearly 10 years. We have two daughters; one is in First grade and the other is in 4K Kingdom Kids at CWC. Stacey teaches in the Middle School, so on some days, our whole family is able to come to school in one car. CWC is very much an extension of our home!
Most enjoyable about CWC: Being able to help shape the hearts, minds, and bodies of our young people is an incredible opportunity and responsibility. As my courses tend to be required for graduation, it is unusual if I don't have every student come through my classroom everyday. I enjoy challenging all students to look at the world with a sense of wonder and appreciation of how God has worked powerfully and richly throughout history to bring us to where we are today. The students at CWC have been, are, and will be history-makers. I'm glad to be part of God's hand in shaping them.
