High School English Teacher
Started at CWC: August 1999
Education: I grew up in the area outside of Grand Rapids, Michigan, where I attended Dutton Christian School and South Christian High School. After graduating from SCHS in 1995, I graduated from Dordt College in Sioux Center, Iowa, in May of 1999. I have a B.A. degree in English/Language Arts, which licenses me to teach grades 7-12.
Educational Experience: I am in my twelfth year of teaching, all of which have been spent at CWCS. I am the only English teacher in the high school, so I get to know all of the students well, and they see a lot of me too! I teach English 9, English 10, American Literature, World Literature, Speech, and Advanced Composition. I am also responsible for the yearbook, which has recently been made into a class.
Family: I have been married for 10 years to my husband Scott, and we are the parents of three beautiful girls: Elise Faith (11/04/04), Cassidy Hope (5/11/06), and Tirzah Love (4/07/10). Scott works with Youth for Christ and is the area director for Waupun High School and Laconia High School, so we try to get involved in the lives of many teens in the area between our 3 schools. Our families are scattered throughout Michigan, Minnesota, and Illinois, so we travel often, which makes for little relaxation time at home. But God is good, and we both continue to be blessed with our family time and with our work.
Why I enjoy teaching at CWCS: What I enjoy most about teaching at CWC is sharing my passions (my Lord and the language He has given us) in a setting where I am able to get to know my students well and see them grow in those areas also. I love the freedom to share my faith as we study everything from gerund phrases to research papers to Shakespeare. The Lord created it all, and I try to challenge my students to see Him in it and to use His awesome gift of language to bring honor and glory back to its Creator.
Favorite Scriptures: I love the comfort found in Jeremiah 29:11 (our wedding verse): "For I know the plans I have for you," declares the Lord, "Plans to prosper you and not to harm you, to give you hope and a future." Romans 8 is also a chapter I can never read too often.
