Administrator (4K-12)

Varsity Boys' Golf Coach

Years at CWC :  1982-present (28th year)

Education:  B.A. in American History/Physical Education from Calvin College, 1982

Educational Experience:  I grew up in Waupun and attended CWC, and following my graduation from Calvin College I accepted a social studies teaching assignment at of 1982.  Through my more than 25 years of teaching my course load has varied but the two constants have been American Government and American History.  In addition I've taught Church History, Bible, Physical Education, and Math.

In 1999, in an effort to promote interest in American history and government, fellow teacher Scott Van Dyke and I began the Washington Classroom program for our high school seniors.  Though Scott moved on to Kalamazoo after a couple of years, this educational travel program continues to thrive.  Each year seniors have the opportunity to travel to Washington DC to learn more of our nation's history and the function of American government.  I continue to enjoy leading this program with the help of other CWC staff.

The fall of 2008 saw a transition into the position of 4K-12 administrator after much prayer and seeking God's direction for my life. I have enjoyed the joys and challenges of this change. I am reminded daily of God's faithfulness to us at CWC.

Family:   I am married and have three children.  My wife, Dianne, is in her 23rdh year of teaching at CWC.  Dianne is currently teaching 2nd grade.  My oldest child, Scott, is teaching at Central Minnesota Christian in Prinsburg, MN, in the social studies field.  Scott's wife, Taryn, is also a teacher though at this time she stays home and cares for their daughter, Alysia, who was born this year.  My son, Ben and his wife Leah live in Milwaukee where he is in sales and Leah is seeking a degree in sonography.   Our daughter Lexy is a 7th grader at CWC.

Years at CWC:  1992-present (18th year)

Education:  BA History/Secondary Education from Dordt College, 1992; Completing M.Ed. Degree in Educational Leadership at Marian College (WI)

Educational Experience:  I came to CWC upon graduation from Dordt in 1992, and since that time I've been involved in almost every aspect of our school.  For four years (1992-96) I taught middle school social studies and English and coordinated the technology program.  In the fall of 1996 I moved over to the high school to teach social studies and Bible and serve as athletic director.  I began a seven-year stint as high school principal in the fall of 1997, while continuing to teach three classes and serve as AD.

In the fall of 2004 I began a new position as the half-time Director of Advancement, whiel continuing in the classroom and as boys' athletic director.  I coached girls' basketball for four years, boys' track for one year, and have been in the boys' soccer program for 17 years, holding the head coach position since 1996.

Family:  My wife Kristi is in her 18th year as a teacher at CWC.  After teaching third grade for 15 years, she began teaching kindergarten in the fall of 2007.  We both grew up in Minnesota, and were married in 1990.  We have three children who attend CWC, Trevor (freshman), Cody (7th grade), and Mikayla (3rd grade).  We attend the First Christian Reformed Church of Waupun, where we are actively involved in worship leading with our Praise Team, lead a couple's Bible Study, and I chair our Vision Committee.

Why I love working at CWC:  Education is about the kids and seeing them grow.  Watching the Holy Spirit shape and mold the lives of kids as they mature through their high school years and seeing the fruit fo the Spirit become more evident both while they are in school and after they graduate brings great rewards.  In my work as Director of Advancement, it is exciting to share the vision and beauty of Christ-centered education with new families as well as with our own constituency.  God is great!!!
